3rd CATFISH Post!!! -- Update for 20/20 Tonight

Greetings -- I am writing to update you for ABC's 20/20 tonight at 10:00 PM
(9:00 PM Central).

Further to my previous post, not only will Angela Wesselman-Pierce from the documentary, CATFISH, be on 20/20 tonight, Yaniv (Nev) Schulman, and the directors, Ariel (Rel) Schulman [Nev's brother] and Henry Joost [their friend], will also be profiled. As a matter of fact, the whole hour of 20/20 will be devoted to the film, CATFISH!

Since this is my third post about this documentary flick, it probably goes without saying that I am still obsessed with it. In my other posts, I didn't give a synopsis of the film, I gave "links" to see the trailer and to read a little about it, but I realized I should give a little outline:

The film is about Nev, a young NYC photographer. Nev's brother (Rel) and their friend (Henry) are film-makers and they film EVERYTHING. So Nev photographed a picture of dancers, and this 8-year old girl in Michigan, Abby, did a painting of the photograph and sent it to Nev. They 'friended' each other on Facebook because he was impressed with her talent, and Nev wanted to encourage her with her painting; and Abby was happy to have a NYC photographer interested in her work, as any little kid would be. So then Abby's Mom, Angela, friended Nev also; in addition to Abby's Dad, and Abby's 19-year old half-sister, Megan. To make a long story short, Nev and Megan fell in love over the internet -- Megan had posted beautiful pictures of herself, and she and Nev began their online relationship via Facebook and chats on their cell phones. This goes on for some eight months, all the while Nev being filmed by Rel and Henry, as they think it is entertaining to them to see the way Nev is acting so in love with someone he has never met -- plus they love to tape Nev because, frankly, they think he is an amusing subject! Something then happens/something is discovered which makes Nev (and his brother and friend) then feel the need take the trip to go to visit Megan and meet her. So they take the drive, and that's when, in the last 40 minutes of the film, the shit hits the fan, as one would say. Megan is surprised that they came, and Nev is surprised at what he finds (to put it mildly). And that all that I will say about the film!

Please note: I was able to find a statement from Nev and he warned that the 20/20 story WILL be giving away some of the secrets of the film, sooooo, if you do plan to see the documentary, then do not watch 20/20 tonight if you don't want it spoiled.

I CANNOT WAIT until tonight! If any of you plan on watching it, or have ANY THOUGHTS on this whatsoever, please leave me a comment here, or email me!! gloria.vincent@yahoo.com

Gloria

  1. Gloria, I am so intrigued with this movie, and I only know about it because you have shared it with me (thanks, I think). How on earth do YOU know how it ends? I am kind of freaked out. Just answer this question -- did anyone go to jail?

  3. Here's my take on the above...

    1. They have meds for obsessive/compulsive disorder.

    2. They find out that Megan is already in a relationship...with a catfish! Bestiality!

    3. Online relationships CAN work!

Come on Miss G...share with me what all the poop is about!!! I can't stand the suspense!

  7. I've heard about this movie. It's not really my cup of tea though. I love old romantic movies like The Enchanted Cottage or The Shop Around the Corner. I think Hollywood has lost its way.
I'm trying to get back to clothespins and houses. I think the next dollhouse is a Charles Dickens/Christmas Carol type. You're the first I've told. What do you think??
