Neighbors

Sometimes we have neighbors who are nice, sometimes we have neighbors who are great; sometimes we have neighbors who are lousy, sometimes we have neighbors who are mean; sometimes we have neighbors who are just plain weird. In my lifetime, in the city and in the country, I have had all those I have described (and I have probably BEEN all those I have described).
For over at least ten years, however, I have been lucky enough to have a neighbor who is WONDERFUL. Her name is Angie. She and her husband live next door in a beautiful white house with a lovely entrance circle, and a gorgeous garden with pretty grounds. I wish she would let me photograph her property, but I am still too shy to ask, as she is a private person. But I just had to show you the lovely flowers she brought over and left on my side stoop yesterday. Angie is an artist and her paintings and letterpress cards were part of a show and sale at our public hall in our town yesterday. She brought the flowers, arranged in the vase, over to me after the closing of the show. Isn't she so nice? I have to remember to return her vase!
A few days ago, we made plans for this coming week. She invited me over for lunch on Wednesday and I am so looking forward to it. The last time we got together in person was over wine, a long time ago! Wine will still be involved this Wednesday, as I am going to be the one to bring it. :) Maybe I will pick a nice White Zinfandel, which can go with anything. I would like to bring a dessert too, but I haven't thought of any ideas. Should I make something, or buy a little cake, cookies, or pastries perhaps? If anyone has a suggestion, please don't hesitate to let me know! Have a great rest of the weekend, and I hope you enjoy the flowers, as I have...

Thanks for visiting.

Best,

  2. What a lovely bouquet, Gloria. Don't be shy about asking her if you can take pics ... the worst she do is say 'no thank you'. You might be surprised.

A lovely batch of homemade sweets would be a nice gesture.

Lucky you ... they are gorgeous.
    Have a beautiful week ~

  3. That was so sweet of her to drop those off for you. I think something homemade would be nice - maybe a banana nut bread?

  4. Gloria! Those are GORGEOUS! You should share these on the Friday meme about cut flowers. I'm trying to think who was participating in it, and I will see if I can find out.

Oh, you really do have a nice neighbor, and I love the vase that those are in. Just stunning! Great color and shape.

I have an idea about cookies that I saw on another blog, but it might involve finding a cookie cutter that you might now have. Though you could probably ad lib. They were SO cute. Email me, and I will hook you up with the recipe.

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  6. What lovely flowers, Gloria. Lucky you for having a sweet neighbor. We have nice friendly neighbors too and we keep planning to have a neighborhood party but it never happens. Maybe one of these summers or springs. Bringing wine would be a nice gesture. It's really up to you if you want to bring dessert too, maybe something easy to make so you don't end up slaving in the kitchen...Christine

  7. What gorgeous flowers...and what a wonderful friend!

Here's a quick AND easy recipe for Apple Dumplings. It'll be enough to bring some to your lunch, and have some left over for you and Tain!

  12. Hi Gloria,

Your flowers are lovely and it sounds like your neighbor Angie is too. I know what you mean about neighbors. Right now we kind of stay to ourselves, though the neighbors of 6 years just moved away and I really miss their dog. He kept a good eye on things in the middle of the night.

Have a wonderful lunch on Wednesday. I am sure whatever you bring will be just fine.

    Take care,

    Kathy

Thank you for sharing your beautiful flowers with us. I'm sure you've been a wonderful neighbor and friend to Angie or she wouldn't have thought of sharing the bouquet and inviting you to come for a visit. I hope you had fun and enjoyed the white zin!

Hope you have a nice weekend, Little Sis.

    Fondly,
    Bill
