My Stoop!

Greetings -- I wanted to show these little birds that I have on my "stoop" at my side door. As many of you know, I'm from NY and I lived in an apt. my whole life before moving to CT. We did always come up on weekends though. But when we lived in Brooklyn, we'd sit on our stoop outside. My son, when he was younger, loved sitting on the "stoop." And we miss it!

But I still have a stoop at my side door! And yes, over the years that we've been here, we've sat on our little stoop. It's only one step but, it IS still a STOOP!! Ha-ha!

Hey, you can take the girl out of Brooklyn, but you can't take the Brooklyn out of the girl. :)

Anyway, I wanted to show these little birds on our stoop, that I bought months ago that I blogged about at the time. The funny thing is that when I purchased them and showed a photo from online when I ordered them, they looked so tiny (click here after finishing this post to see), and yet they are quite big, as you can see below! I wanted to paint them but, because I am LAZY, I never did. :)

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Best, Gloria

p.s. I just bought the yellow flowers the other day. Aren't those Autumn MUMS?? Am I wrong in thinking that this is a little early to have these flowers out for sale, since it's still Summer??!

  2. Hey Gloria, thanks for stopping by and leaving me a nice comment. This is my first time here and I WILL be back! I've entirely given up on when/why certain flowers are sold. I think it just so happens to be whatever THEY want to sell. I've been told to cut mums back until Sept 15 so that the stems will hold the blooms better (support) so I suppose these aren't really that way off schedule. They are beautiful and so colorful with your birds. Have a great weekend!

  3. So sweet. To live in NYC for even a short time is on my bucket list. Maybe I wouldn't like it. It sure would be a change up from Iowa. :)
Love the birds and is it mum time already? Where has the summer gone.

Thanks for your affirming comment on my decision to go raspberry on that little chest. I know bold and crazy but I guess that's my look. :)
    Have a great weekend

  5. Cute birds :) Here in So. CA we have had such a mild summer weather wise that I'm worried our Fall will be super hot. I hope not! I hate the heat.

I've always dreamed about living in NY in a brownstone and sitting on the stoop. Sounds like a dream come true to me :)

  6. Hi Gloria,

Those are cute birdies. It is pretty to see the bright yellow flowers too. I think that they ARE mums.

Do you have any old pictures of you two on your Brooklyn stoop? Brooklyn is always fascinating to me, and one of my favorite books of all time is "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn". There is an old black and white movie of it too, and it is just like the book.

We stayed there one night on an army base back on our big trip.

Have a wonderful weekend out in your yard, my friend.

    Hearts,

    Kathy M.

  10. This is pertaining to Kathy/Oregon Gifts comment (although I did answer her personally in an email): I DO have many old photos of my son when he was little sitting on the stoop in Bklyn! But they aren't 'digital' photos, so I will have to scan them. But that's such a great idea from my buddy Kathy! I should do that and then do a post showing the photos! :)
Although it goes back to: Gloria is lazy in getting to stuff like this, so no one should hold their breath. Which I'm SURE no one will be doing that anyway. LOL! ;)

  11. Why do you call yourself lazy?!? You created a darling vignette next to your stoop...that's not lazy! Hard to believe that mum's are out...then again, you live in much cooler climes than I do! Have a stupendous Saturday!!!

  12. Dearest Gloria,

Thanks for your vist and compliments on my crocheted gloves and handkerchiefs. It is the finest thread and you actually do puncture your left index finger with the pointed (rather sharp) crochet-hook. But I love the result.
Funny that you say STOOP. That must be another Dutch word that ended into the American language from its colonial times. We say STOEP but you pronounce it exactly the same. Great to know from The New Netherlands that there still is so much alive, like cole slaw and cookies...
Love your birds too, they're great and even without he paint they blend in well.
About the mums, indeed it looks like the rush us through summer into fall and we don't want to give up on our summer YET. That's marketing and for sure they somehow forced them into bloom earlier to sell them as 'first' hoping for more ROI.
Have a great Sunday and love to you,

    Mariette

  16. Cute! Love the birds, G, and I think mums are sort of a year round plant, now. It's just that they have those rust and red colors in the fall. Not sure, but that's what I think. Don't hold me to it, k?

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  19. Dear Gloria, I love sitting on the stoop too. My mom and I used to sit on the stoop and talk all the time. It must be a New York thing. Conversation just seems to flow sitting on the stoop. Anyway, I love the little birds. Thank you for visiting my blog. I hope that you will visit again real soon, I will look forward to it. Blessings, Catherine xo

  21. Dearest Gloria,

Don't know if I look like my Mom... http://bit.ly/nNc57g This post you can see her. My profile picture is from several years back and I have turned quite gray since I was completely paralyzed in January, last year. Thanks for you comment anyway. My figure is a size 4; since I'm 15 years old I have been the same. That's my Dad's side of the family, for sure not my Mom's as she has been obese.

    Love to you,

    Mariette

  24. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and your words of kindness and encouragement. My dad is doing so much better and my mom and I talked about it tonight and he will probobly be able to go home in a couple of weeks. She is also doing better, she just loves an excuse to hang out with me :)

I love your "little" birds. We were just in Brooklyn this past spring. We had a great time in the city. We live about 4 hours north in upstate.

    :) Michelle

  25. Those birds are so cute. I love them the way they are. As they'll get older and weathered they'll look even cuter! I hear you get the best talks going on stoops(gossip too!).
Take care of yourself sweet Gloria!
    hugs,
    Caroline

  26. Funny, I was just thinking about mums yesterday and wondering if it was too early to start looking for them. We've been enjoying some fall-like weather here in KY the last week or so and it puts me in the mood for all things fall!

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I'm going to look up those sites you recommended to link up to. Thanks again!

  27. Love the birds, and your stoop! I can see why you were surprised to see the size of those birds! As for painting...maybe a creamy white? I don't know. That's why it takes me so long to paint something. I can never decide on a color.

  28. Love your 'stoop' and your birds! Way too early for mums to be on sale, although they are pretty. We're just getting our summer weather her in the NW.

  29. Hey, Li'l Sis! I haven't heard the word "stoop" in such a long time. Brings back memories (but not of living in the faraway land of Brooklyn of course). I like your birds a lot and, to be honest, I'm glad you were "lazy" enough not to paint them!

Yep, those look like mums to me. When temps here reached the upper 90s this week, I decided I'm completely ready for fall! Thank you for showing us a preview of autumn!

Hope you have a fun weekend!

    Fondly,
    Bill
