Oh my goodness... David Cassidy. I cannot tell you how in love I was with David Cassidy. I went to his concert at Madison Square Garden (remember, I lived in Brooklyn at the time). I was about 13 at the time. I remember as he was getting ready to come out on the stage, the lights were going crazy, the girls were SCREAMING, and my friend/cousin, Laurie, and I were just sitting there, speechless, on the edge of our seats, waiting for "HIM" to come out on stage. And when he did? I remember that I got all choked-up and I just wanted to burst out crying. The girls were screaming so loud, he couldn't even be heard singing...
I used to buy Tiger Beat (a teen magazine) and would collect all the ones with David and just pour over them every day. I just knew that someday he would meet me and he would see me and fall in love with me.

I watched every single episode of The Partridge Family and bought every one of his albums. Well gee, I had to, since I was going to marry him one day!!

Then I grew up a little and discovered "real" boys when I was 15, and my first boyfriend, Robby, made me forget David. :)
Then, when I was in my 20's, he came on Broadway in "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." One of my best friends in the world, Tricia, called to tell me and she wanted to go. So I said, "Yeah, OK." (Since I was out of love with David by that time - thank goodness, otherwise people would REALLY have had to worry about me.) Anyway, Tricia got us front row seats. I don't know how she did it. And at one point in the show, he actually came down, singing, and walked in front of the first row, him singing with women shaking his hand or him grabbing you by the shoulders. Which is what he did to me. And I must say, I did get a thrill. Yes, I admit it. Here was my David, grabbing me! He was actually pretty good in the play.

Well, thank you for letting me indulge in this early teenage memory. It was fun reminiscing!
Have a great weekend!

Gloria...which Beatle and Monkee were your favs? Mine were Paul and Micky.
ReplyDeleteOH GOD! You just reminded me!!! BEFORE David Cassidy, I was in love with Davy Jones of the Monkees!!!!! Oh my goodness, how can I betray Davy like this?? (And my favorite Beatles was George -- I HAD to pick him because my cousin's favorite was Paul, and I didn't want her to get mad at me.)

You just better hope that Davy doesn't find out about David!!! Hmmm...Davy-David...there's a trend happening here!
ReplyDeleteWell, don't worry about Davy and David. All three of us are 'old' now and I'm sure they wouldn't have the energy to fight over me, and I don't have the energy to care who won. Although.... if there's a trend happening with the name as you say, maybe I will meet a "Dave" when my son puts me in a nursing home when I am 80... LOL!
ReplyDeleteTouché!!!
ReplyDeleteOh I can just imagine! He is really cute but he was a little too young for me. I was a big fan of Ricky Nelson, don't know if you would know him...Christine
ReplyDeleteI STILL love David!
